Dr. Awan currently serves as a Professor in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In addition to his professorship, he holds key leadership roles including Vice Chair in Education, Associate Program Director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency, and Co-Director of the Medical Student Radiology Clerkship. Dr. Awan also contributes as a member of the Teaching Faculty at the Harvard Macy Institute.

He is a Medical Contributor for the Scripps News' "America Tonight Show," where he discusses pressing health issues facing America. Dr. Awan earned his Medical Doctor (MD) degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree from Harvard University. His expertise spans medicine, public health, and medical education. In recognition of his contributions to medical education, PubMed named him a World Expert in Teaching in 2022.
